bangkok phuket buying & tours help?
hi is it cheaper to buy things like dvds and dvds watches and clothes at markets in phuket or in bangkok,
100 bht for 1 dvd everywhere and they wont budge in bangkok (i think 5 aud is to expensive for a copy dvd) and clothes are 200bht (is quite ok) however for 500bht in aud you can get same for exellent quality.
were just curious cause we wont to know whether to buy stuff here or at phuket we leave here next tues, and can anyone recommend cheap place to book tours in phuket so far we have spider monkey rock climbing tours quite cheap 600bht per head all day trip around phi phi island, thanks guys.
The prices for knock offs will be similar, if not more expensive in Phuket and you won’t have nearly the selection you’ll find in Bangkok. As far as the vendors not budging on the price, they’re used to dealing with tourists and are very good at getting everything they can get. The best way to get a discount is to buy more than one item, the more you buy the better and vendors will be more receptive to giving you a discount or let a Thai do your buying for you, quality can vary from very poor to very good. I suggest you don’t buy any dvds unless you get a guarantee and have a chance to check the quality, you’ll be lucky if half the ones you buy are of decent quality. If you think the prices are a little high, the AUD has plummeted about 30-35% against the baht over the last 3-4 months, it wa a whole lot cheaper for Aussies before then. Wait and book your Phuket tours in Phuket, there are tour shops everywhere, as well as most hotels, shop around when you get there. Good luck.
