Going to Phuket (Patong Beach) – How much to bring?
Because of the past Tsunami, I got hard time to persuade my hubby for a trip to Phuket. I must get more interesting facts to convince him. We are both mid 20s, young, happening and hip. That is why my hubby finds beachs & island are a bored place to go. So for those who have been there, please provide me on this info based on your experiences:
1) Travel time from Phuket Airport to Patong Beach?
2) Best 3 or 4 star hotel which is situated in the middle of all amenities like shopping centre, place of interest?
3) What can I expect there in the day & night time eg: activities?
4) Are the things there cheap as in Bangkok or are there things to shop actually?
5) For 2 nights, how much is consider enough for each of us (USD or SGD)……?
6) Are the people there friendly……….. :>)
* Pls dont give me links to Phuket Website. I won’t post a questio is I can find answer there….. Tq
Hi there,
I have been to Phuket several times so I will try to answer where I can!
1) It is approx. 30minutes from the airport. If you don’t have a shuttle arranged with your accommodation there are also plenty of other options from the airport. The last bus, however, leaves shortly before midnight.
2) Bangla Road is the main street in Patong Beach. Accommodation within walking distance from here is ideal. There are several options with all different ranges. I can recommend the Patong Beach Resort or for a small style more friendly resort, the Sea Sun Sand. Merlin Resort Patong is also lovely.
3) There are plenty of activities for day and night. During the day you can explore the island and the beautiful beaches of the west coast. Day trips to Phi Phi, Pha Nga (James Bond Island). Diving in the Similian Islands. Elephant riding, bungee jumping, water parks, relaxation spas, thai cooking classes and shopping! At night you can experience Thai culture at the Muay Thai Boxing, the cabaret shows, wide assortment of local and western restaurants and the bars/clubs of Patong.
4) Phuket is definately not as cheap as Bangkok as there is really no area you could classify as ‘off the beaten track’ to pick up a bargain. Because Patong is so heavy with tourists, others tend to set a precedent by paying too much, so the Thai’s always have leway with their bartering. I would definately save shopping for Bangkok. There can be a massive price difference. Although, there is a new shopping complex opened in Patong. I haven’t been there yet (will be in December!) and rumour has it, its fantastic shopping.
5) I would say $50USD will definately get you something nice
6) People there are super friendly! Also keeping in mind some tourists tend to forget the Thai culture so by remembering this and learning small parts of the language to get you around, you will go a long way!
Have fun, it’s a beautiful place!!
