phuket heritage hotel
Hotel in Silom or Sukhumvit?

Hi, I am visiting thailand for my honeymoon in the month of may. I will be heading to phuket, but will spend 2 nights at bangkok (1 before and 1 after phuket). It seems Silom & Sukhumvit are the happening areas in bangkok. I wish to know, which out of these is a better hotel for shopping, nightlife and getting to other bangkok attractions such as Emerald Budha & the river.

My Budget is under 1500 Baht/night, as per reviews The Heritage Hotel (Silom) and Swiss Park Hotel (Sukhumvit) look good to me.

Plz Help!
Also, please suggest the things we must do or the places we must see while at Bangkok.

Of the two hotels, I think the Swiss Park Hotel is the better choice, because of the location and the reviews. It’s right in the heart of the action.

Must see, for dinner or drinks at least, the Skybar or Distil in the State Bldg for drinks. It is the second tallest building in Bangkok right along the Chao Phraya River, a wonderful view at night. The restaurant there are supposed to be okay and are expensive for Bangkok. Taking the skytrain to the last station near the river. I forget the station name it’s on the Silom Line and a nice 8 minute walk to the building, better than 45 minutes by taxi.

Dinner, I might go to the Seafood Palace on Sukhumvit near Asoka road. Reasonable price for dinner. Or the Seafood Market on Soi 22. Two of the better seafood places in Bangkok. Seafood Palace has a traditional Thai show around 8 pm. The Seafood Market, is like a grocery store, you choose what you want to eat and then have them cook to your taste, this place is a bit more casual.

Dancing, I would go the RCA area, there are 3 clubs to choose from. Lots of locals and foreigners, playing some hot music.. I may be a bit older but I still understand what is hot for the younger crowd. hahaha A taxi will get you there the quickest

If you want a small venue, there is the Q Bar on Sukhumvit Soi 11. 600 baht cover, lots of foreigners, they have an upstairs lounge also.

during the day, visit the MBK centre for souvenirs and Platinum Mall for clothing both are in the Siam Square area and easy skytrain ride from your hotel. Pick your poison. Also, at least visit the Grand Palace, that will be a taxi ride. The fastest way is to take the skytrain to the National Stadium and then take a taxi from the rear of the MBK Centre.

www.bangkok.com for other things that might pique your interest and it has information on what I just wrote above.

Good luck and congratulations
