Bangkok – the affordability to explore

The hotch-potch of huge malls and industrial institutions, sophisticated public transport and bumper to bumper traffic with the wafting smell of traditional Thai faire that lingers in the air could all be a bit over whelming for the first timer, but, the city’s buzz is addictive.

Bangkok – the ‘big mango’ as it is fondly known by its many tourists that ply up and down its different regions, flock to this amazing hub in Southeast Asia, owing to the country’s unique offerings.

Apart from its culture, arts, pristine beaches, vibrant night life, warm hospitality and not forgetting its delectable cuisine, the country is especially geared towards budget or cheap travelling. This is perhaps why the city is also the most frequented in South East Asia.

Bangkok’s rapid development having extended to its transport network has no doubt been a plus point with hardcore back packers who want to explore a city in the best way they know how – by foot. The new roads and the Sky Train make getting about convenient and cheap as each station allows tourists to get off at central locations.

Another affordable option for exploring the city is through Bangkok’s underground railway system which runs through a number of popular centres in the city. Whilst in Asia how could anyone not travel in a Tuk Tuk – the symbol of Asian transport? Having arrived at a centre, whether it be for cultural or purposes of shopping, getting about on foot is the best option.

Bangkok’s location also allows for cheap day trips to popular tourist hubs such as Kanchanaburi – made famous due to the structure of the River Kwai bridge. Places like Chiang Mai located in the country’s northern region are known for its beautiful scenic views. Beach enthusiasts usually make a bee line to Phuket Island or Koh Samui to enjoy the waves and to get a tan.

The more adventurous traveller will definitely enjoy a trip down Bangkok’s canals to see the other side of Bangkok, aside from its glamour. This affordable means of transport could be contracted in Saphan Taksin near the sky train. A journey down the canal consists of stops along the way, and one such stop that should not be missed is the one of the many floating markets found along the way.

Tourists on a budget usually make there way to the East of the country which offers resorts, national parks and remote islands as well. While the North of the country, is less frequented by tourists and more affordable.

And while most tourists would be satisfied with the scenic views of the north, the more daring ones could venture into Laos or Myanmar from here which just proves that the opportunities to explore and see this part of Asia’s most popular gateway are endless.

When exploring Bangkok a convenient means of accommodation could be found in the form of Bangkok Serviced Apartments. The city has plenty to choose from such as the Bangkok Grand President which offers facilities that create a perfect setting to the end of an amazing stay in the Asian City of Angels.
